One of the questions I get asked the most is, “How did you get involved with Humble Creek Homes?” The short answer is that I went from a client impressed with a great renovation job to a business partner, excited about building a tiny home community. Here’s how it all came together…and how Humble Creek Homes went from a vision to reality.
A few years back, I needed a renovation done and had heard about Humble Creek’s reputation for quality and professionalism. I decided to hire them, and I was blown away by the team’s dedication, attention to detail, and clear communication. It’s rare to find a company that truly gets what you want and makes the process as smooth as possible. Simon, one of Humble Creek’s co-owners, stood out to me with his approachability and vision. We kept in touch even after the renovation wrapped up, and I always had the sense that Humble Creek was onto something unique.
About a year later, Simon reached out and invited me to see a coach home they’d recently completed. I was curious to see what they were working on, so I took him up on the offer. When I stepped inside the coach home, it was clear they were creating spaces with style and purpose; compact, functional, and beautiful. The conversation naturally turned to the idea of building something bigger. We talked about creating a tiny home village in Ottawa’s west end, a place where people could embrace a simpler lifestyle without sacrificing quality. At that point, it was just a “what-if” idea. But the spark was there, and it planted a seed in both our minds.
A year went by, and I had almost forgotten about our conversation. Then, out of the blue, Simon called me again, this time with news that changed everything. He invited me to see a tiny home they’d just completed and shared their plans to bring the tiny home village to life. He asked if I’d like to come on board to help turn the vision into a reality. For me, it was an easy “yes.” With my background in marketing and experience scaling businesses, I knew I could bring the expertise Humble Creek needed. The chance to make an impact with tiny homes, promoting sustainable and creative living, felt like the perfect alignment of my skills and interests.
Stepping into my role as VP of Business Development, I hit the ground running. I visited wedding venues, campgrounds, and brought in territory sales reps, introducing them to the tiny home concept and showing them how it could enhance their spaces. Tiny homes aren’t just structures, they offer a lifestyle shift, an opportunity for people to live more simply and connect with their surroundings. It was incredibly fulfilling to share that vision with others and see the excitement it sparked. We also hosted webinars and tiny home viewings to give people a closer look at what tiny living is all about.
Then came the opportunity to pitch on CBC’s Dragons' Den. Standing in front of the Dragons, talking about our vision for Humble Creek Homes, was a surreal experience. We wanted to show them why we believed tiny homes could be the future for so many people, from young professionals looking for affordable housing to retirees seeking a low-maintenance lifestyle. While I won’t give away too many details, let’s just say it was a day I’ll never forget, and I’ll share more about it in my next blog!
Looking back, what started as a simple renovation job turned into an exciting partnership and a chance to reshape how people think about home. At Humble Creek, we’re committed to building not just homes but communities, places where people can connect, unwind, and live more meaningfully.
